01 / Capability
Objects with weight.
Modelling, materials, lighting, and animation for screens that can handle it. I care about the way a surface catches light and the way a camera earns a reveal.
Waking up the browser
Rendani Manugeni / Creative developer
I build 3D worlds, WebGL instruments, and websites with a pulse. Function Psi is the independent practice of Rendani Manugeni — one person in South Africa, with a very wide browser.
I make interfaces that feel like places, not pages.
01 / Selected work
A mix of self-initiated concepts and studio-scale experiments. Every project is a complete case study — brief, build, and the decisions behind it.
A chrome instrument that changes shape as you tune it. Real-time reflections, synthesized tones, and a launch film you can play.
Creative direction / 3D / Front-end
A type specimen you can push, light, and export. Six material studies, one very large letterform.
Concept / Type design / Development
An orbital data story built on instanced WebGL. Scrub time, search the sky, and watch the planet disappear.
Design / Data visualisation / Front-end
An editorial commerce concept for quiet, heavy objects. Built around pace, negative space, and one very good chair.
Art direction / UX / Build
An editorial platform for people who take their time. Built around reading, not engagement.
Design / Front-end / Publishing system
An audio-reactive WebGL garden. Speak, hum, or plug in a MIDI controller and watch it bloom.
Creative coding / Sound / WebGL
02 / What I do
The through-line is motion. Things should respond, settle, and occasionally surprise you. The tools change; the curiosity doesn't.
03 / How it goes
Every project starts with a conversation and ends with something you can open in a browser. The middle is where the interesting accidents happen.
01
The first pass is questions. What is this for, who is it for, and what should someone feel in the first five seconds? I would rather find the sharp idea before opening a design file.
02
I storyboard in the browser early. Type, timing, and camera moves are easier to judge when they are moving. Static mockups are a checkpoint, not the destination.
03
No beautiful prototype that dies in handoff. I build the actual interface, with real content, real breakpoints, and real performance constraints.
04
The last ten percent is timing, easing, and restraint. I keep tuning until the page has a pulse and nothing moves just because it can.
04 / The studio
I'm Rendani Manugeni, a creative developer from South Africa. I work with founders, studios, and small teams on launches, experiments, and the occasional strange idea. I handle the concept, design, and build — and bring in collaborators when the work needs another pair of hands.
The name comes from function and psi: a nod to systems, signals, and the strange space between logic and intuition.
More about Rendani05 / Currently
I take on a small number of projects at a time: launches, experiments, and collaborations where the brief is clear but the outcome isn't. If you have a strange idea and a real deadline, I want to hear it.
